10,000 Reasons Lyrics

Bless the Lord O my soul
O my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up
It’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass
And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
When the evening comes

You’re rich in love
And You’re slow to anger
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find

And on that day
When my strength is failing
The end draws near
And my time has come
Still my soul will
Sing Your praise unending

Ten thousand years
And then forevermore

Question: The lyrics mention “10,000 years and then forevermore.” I know the Millennial Reign of Christ is 1,000 years, so what is the 10,000 years referring to? Is it just a random number to match the title of 10,000 reasons? Maybe there are 10,000 answers to this question?
Awesome song! One of my all time favorotes.

My wife was dying of Alzheimer’s disease in January, 2017. While not a fan of contemporary music at my age of 85, our church sang “10,000 Reasons” on several occasions, and I began to listen to the amazing lyrics and singable tune. I decided to include it in her up-coming memorial service. When she went home to her eternal destiny on Jan. 20th, she breathed her last at 10:00 p.m., surrounded by family in the board and care residence, with praises and singing, I excused myself to the living room, and on the TV screen they were singing this song. Amid my sweet blessings of assurance, I went back to her room, asked the family to find the song on the internet, and we joined our hearts in singing, “Still my soul will sing your praise unending, 10,000 years and then forevermore.” Today, on her gravestone, are these words, “SINGING LIKE NEVER BEFORE.”

Don’t forget how God calculates: a day is a thousand years and 1000 years is a day.

      A law, not an observation.

In April of 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. the chemo was atrocious. the nausea was horrendous! I was so sick I wanted to die. Matt’s song came on the radio at that time that I was really sick. He focused my thoughts back to God and off the pity party I was having. This song was my lifeline. Literally. Then in October of 2012 I got atypical pneumonia and spent 7 days in the hospital in isolation. The pity party started over BUT one of the nurses played Matt’s song for me from her phone when she asked if anything she could do for me. You guessed it. We had to have the door closed so she wouldn’t get in trouble. I lived on that song all day and all night for 10 months. Our radio station played the song every hour. It’s as if the Lord knew I needed to be constantly reminded of His love for me and that I was not alone and could lean on Him.

Now here it is 6 1/2 years later the cancer came back. Again I fell back on Matt’s song. This time the biopsy came back NO CANCER!!!!!! Praise God!!!

I just got off the phone with one of my daughters and she wanted a verse from one of my favorite songs that got me through the first bout of breast cancer. You guessed it. She is going to use the verse in something she’s creating for this time around.

I would greatly appreciate ti if this message could get to Matt Redman for me.
