If you want to understand what Easter is really about, this song from Chris Tomlin “At the Cross (Love Ran Red)” really sums up best what really happened when Jesus gave up his life for all our sins. Allow me to break down the Chorus of the song for you and explain how what Jesus did on the cross was all for you…
“At the cross
At the cross
I surrender my life
I’m in awe of You
I’m in awe of You”
When we surrender our lives to God, that means we realize that there is a Creator who made you, and all of us, for a specific purpose. You want to live your life fulfilling that purpose, because you realize God’s immense love for you with him giving up his Son for your sake.
Ephesians 2:8,10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God…For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
“Where Your love ran red
and my sin washed white”
This is God’s love, Jesus blood has washed our sins from us. No matter how good of a person we think we are, we can never be perfect, we’ve made too many mistakes. God knew you could never earn back a right standing with him, so he offered up his Son on the cross, so that all the things you have done wrong can be forgiven and you can have a right standing before God.
Romans 4:25 He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.
“I owe all to You
I owe all to You Jesus”
This is the joy and hope that fills all Christians, that everything on this earth is temporary, but what Jesus has done for us is eternal life with our Heavenly Father. We owe all to him, because he gave his life for us.
Colossians 2:6-7 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday to show he has victory over death. All followers of Jesus have the same victory over death, but in order to receive that you must acknowledge to God that you are sinful and need a Savior, realize that without Christ’s death on the cross you cannot receive eternal life in heaven, and lastly follow Jesus by leading the life God created for you.
