Is it possible to add years to your life?

Nutritionist David Meinz says yes. Instead of eating unhealthy processed foods, David encourages us to consume foods in their rawest form.

“If you eat food closer to the way it grows, you can’t go wrong.”

David suggests that we stray away from eating primarily animal-based products. He explains a dietary shift that has taken place over the years in the United States.

“If you look at most of the world that has long life populations, healthy populations, they eat less animal products than we do. What we do in this country is we grow plants but we don’t eat the plants, we feed those to animals and then we eat the animals.”

“That’s inefficient on many levels; environmentally, economically, health wise, etc. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to be healthy, but it would be good if Americans would eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and a little bit less animal products.”

David clarifies the difference between vegan and vegetarian diets.

“Vegan is completely all the way over, that is to say they don’t eat any animal products. Vegetarian is a step back from that, vegetarians often will eat a plant-based diet but also they’ll eat eggs and cheese. That makes that diet a little bit easier to attain.”

There is much more to living a healthier lifestyle than nutrition.

“It’s not all nutrition; you absolutely must have physical activity or lifestyle. That’s why God put your legs close to the ground.”
